Wine Advocate pisses off DO Ribeira Sacra

On May 16th, the Denomination of Origin (DO) for Ribeira Sacra in Spain’s Galicia region took the rather atypical step of denouncing a recent report about the wines of this area in the Wine Advocate (aka RobertParker.com). While overall pleased with the good showing of scores, they took issue with the fact that 21 of the 148 wines rated in the report by Luis Gutiérrez were wines not produced under the auspices of DO and thus, not entitled to be called, “Ribeira Sacra”. This was clearly not helped by Gutiérrez dedicating 10% of the report lambasting the DO for these wineries not being part of it.
