In The Glass: Adernats Negre Jove 2011
Expectations are generally low when you open up a young wine that’s only 3€. But, this bottle from Vinícola de Nulles in DO Tarragona is surprisingly good for what it is. With a light 12.5% alcohol coming out of a blend of 60% Tempranillo, 35% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon it is a pleasing meal wine. You could even sip it on its own as it expresses its fruit well. While quite acidic when first opened, as it breathes it gets surprisingly deep with a dusty smokiness at the bottom of it. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t something to age and hang on to. It’s a very affordable bottle to pop open and enjoy whenever you want something easy to drink. And let’s be honest in that we can’t ever have enough of this type of wine on our fine planet.
