This was an interesting find that we came across at Monvínic last week where the by-the-glass selection is glorious. Obviously for most people, when thinking Pinot Noir, they think France, New Zealand, or Oregon. Australia (typically known as Yellow Tail country) isn’t the first place that comes to mind, but this bottle by Stonier, sourced from Yarra Valley grapes could easily change anyone’s opinion.
It gives a little bit of smoky mysteriousness in the nose with a lovely pale color in the glass. The body is lovely with bright, fresh fruits, warm acidity, and a touch of herbal elements coming in to play. While similar to what you can find in other Pinot producing regions, it still has a character that defines it uniquely. Obviously, it had better be tasty for the 46€ bottle price, but when getting it by the glass at Monvínic, it’s much more economical and something absolutely worth trying.
