DO Empordà in 2020

In years past and in times not like these, whenever visiting Alt Empordà in the far northeast of Catalunya, I’d try to find a way to have a drink on the terrace of the Almadraba Park Hotel in Roses. A grand hotel that trickles down the hillside, it still manages to gleam with the the classic charm of mid-twentieth century tourism in Costa Brava. That and the terrace is simply stunning. It juts out with a view which hovers over their swimming pool and sketches the horizon where a pale blue sky meets a shimmering turquoise sea. Sitting outside in the early days of summer in June, it encompasses all that is amazing about Empordà and the wines fortunate enough to emerge from it.
