DO Cava drops harvest maximums by 17% for 2020

The regulatory board of DO Cava has announced that for the 2020 harvest, maximum yields per hectare will be dropped from 12,000 to 10,000 which is a reduction of nearly 17%. As is the purvey of the regulatory board, they are allowed to change yields year to year and as they commented to me in a follow-up question, this reduction will, for the moment only apply to the 2020 harvest. This is quite striking as it’s the first time the yields have ever been set so low. In terms of comparison to other regions, it will place them far under Prosecco at 18,000kg/ha and just under the standard limit of Champagne at 10,400kg/ha.
