A hop across the Douro: Quinta de Tourais

When heading to the Douro Valley for The New Douro tasting last year, I came across a little hotel called, Original Douro Hotel in Peso da Régua. It was a touch more expensive than some of the other options and it didn’t sit right on the river, but there was something about the photos and vibe that made it seem worth it. Shockingly, unlike many other moments in my life, it turns out that I wasn’t wrong. Originally (thus the name) built in 1880, the hotel was fully-remodeled and modernized a few short years ago. More often than not, you’ll find the owner Ana Alice Carneiro there at the hotel, keeping a keen eye and making sure it runs splendidly.
