If you’re not going up the side of a mountain in Madeira, then you’re most likely sitting in the water. I live in the mountains, but I’ve rarely seen such an extreme and vertiginous landscape which is striking, but impractical. I say that as it doesn’t offer a great deal of space for crop cultivation amongst its old, volcanic jagged peaks, but views, those are in plentiful supply.
