Cos d'Estournel - Cos d’Estournel 2004

Dark ruby in color with growing garnet rim, medium viscosity. Dark cherry, cured strawberry, heavy fruits, nearly raisin and Port-like, vanilla, cinnamon, light touches of toasted oak, but a syrupy molasses underlying component, very light underbrush notes, wet, heavy earth, compost, and granular. Medium plus tannins, medium acidity, medium plus intensity, oak notes still quite prevalent on the palate, dark fruits quite noticeable, mid-palate really falls off with a medium finish still very much alive but not holding much spark, lingering bitter chocolate notes, and surprisingly closed for the age.
