After enjoying the Mig Mig 2009 from *lavinyeta some time back, I have to say that it’s amazing at the consistency between it and the new 2010 vintage. Obviously, the 2010 has its own character, but this blend of 50% Grey Grenache (Garnatxa Roja in Catalan) and 50% Marselan doesn’t leave a lot of “flub” room to toy with the mix. Yet, Josep Serra i Pla’s wine really continues in the new tradition this bottle is establishing–especially for the Marselan which many wineries in the area are now “experimenting” with in the hopes that the DO regulatory bottle will soon make it an approved grape.

Mig Mig 2010 opens with an initially earthy and aciditc burst in the nose. This carries in the body as well, but that quickly develops a spicy character. After just a few minutes, the nose changes as well to pick up exotic cardamom and white pepper elements. About 30 minutes in, the earthiness element stays true, but the body grows quite plush. It picks up a granite like/mineral aspect which then drifts in to flavors of plum, ripe dark cherries, and a texture of perfectly ripe avocado. If you still have some of the bottle left at this point, you get treated to an orange peel aspect in the nose that turns in to floral flavors that then carry out in to the finish. A very intricate wine with many layers to it. 14% 18€
