I’ve mentioned the merits of bulk wine (or ‘a granel’) in Spain before. I’m mentioning them again because really, it’s just dumb to buy bottles of wine for daily drinking. We came back from one of the local wineries with an 8L jug of wine that cost us less than 14€ for what is the high quality, reserve wine that Sinols releases. When you break that down, it comes out to about $2 for the typical 750ml bottle of wine. Essentially, this is Two Buck Chuck from Trader Joe’s, but when you re-convert for the level of quality, it would be called something more along the lines of Twenty Dollar Charles because the cost is $20 per bottle for a comparable wine in the US.
This is the reason that not buying bulk in Spain is nuts. What you get for what you pay is amazing. That and it also goes to show that this wine, which is 10€ in the bottle has a rather large amount of cost in the bottle, label, cork, and D.O. certifications. Again, all I can say is that while you look like a cheap Dutch tourist, suckling your wine from a large plastic jug, you’re far too drunk and your pockets too full to give a damn otherwise.
