Obsessive Compulsive Packaging

So it came time that one of the mighty frying pans in the kitchen needed a proper lid. The days of setting a plate on top of the 12″ skillet to flip the tortilla (Spanish, not Mexican and not a fritata) needed to end and so I set off to find a lid to fit the pan. It happened to come from Amazon which means that like all things Amazon, it was over-packaged.
Take a look below if you don’t believe me. In addition to the original box for the lid, there was also loose packaging to fit that box in to the bigger Amazon box. Why all this is necessary for a metal pan lid that could probably be dropped out of the sky and still be fine, is beyond me. I suppose that in the end, it’s great that they didn’t use Styrofoam peanuts to pack it as well, but in reality, this isn’t much better.
I don’t really know what options I have to try and avoid this in future, other than to not shop at Amazon, which is actually pretty easy to do, since I really don’t like them. Come to think of it, buying locally is another way to get around this, as then you can ask that they not give you a bag with the purchase, despite the fact that everyone in retail aggressively wants to give you a bag for their free promotion. Just something to think about in the future while shopping. Now I’ve got to head down to the building recycle bins to properly file this dead tree that I am now the proud owner of.
