A Recommended Excursion

Poor Amtrak… Everyone talks so much crap about it and how you can’t get anywhere and how it’s late and this and that and whatever and mee mee mee moo moo moo. I love it. It allows me to not have to deal with a car at all to go visit my family. It allows me to go down the California Coast on scenic routes. Sure, it’s got its hiccups, but I have yet to drive anywhere in the Bay Area and not hit traffic that wickedly sucks, so people need to chill.
This is how I propose you chill when riding the train. If you are like me (and if you’re reading this, you very well could be) in that you happen to catch the train from San Francisco, you wanna get your tickets early. Why? Will the seats sell out? Ha! Hardly! The reason for this is that the ticket office for Amtrak in SF is right next to the Ferry Building which is known as heaven for epicurists everywhere in the Bay. Once you get your tickets, maybe you want to go hang out in the wine bar there, or get some seafood, or better yet, go to Cowgirl Creamery and get yourself some cheese. Then, head down to Acme Bread and pick up a loaf or two of something good. Once you’ve got your staples now, wander around a bit and pick up some other vittles. If you’re there on the right day, the Farmer’s Market will be happening and there is no end of goodness to that.
Get all stocked up. Get on your train and have a good ride. Hmmm, I have to admit that I don’t know what Amtrak’s official policy is on bringing outside booze on the train, but they do sell it onboard, so they must allow it to some extent. By sneaky and feel European. Whatever the case, this is the best way that I know of to travel, hands down and stomach satisfied.
